The drug has ultimately saved my skin, but that's been at the cost of causing new and ongoing side effects. I would obviously have preferred another treatment option to avoid the side effects, but there isn't one. I hit rock bottom and multiple dermatologists told me it was my only option, so I would still make the same choices if I had my time again. After 11 days on the drug, my second reaction began.
The first is that Isotretinoin can cause redness and flushing as a direct effect, and this will go when you stop treatment. The second is that Isotretinoin can cause dry skin and eczema which can lead to redness. The third is that inflamed, red spots will settle to leave flat areas of redness which are called post-inflammatory erythema – these will look redder when you are hot or exercise. Finally, Isotretinoin makes you prone to catching the sun, and this can cause sunburn and redness.
Be gentle whilst washing your face (no scrubbing allowed!) and try not to let the face wash sit on your face for too long. If you’re on a budget and looking for gentle, accutane-friendly products, Simple is an all-round great brand. The Simple Micellar Water does exactly what it says on the tin – it removes make-up, even the waterproof kind, without causing any irritation. When stuff like this exists, I honestly don’t know why it’s worth spending more. I have very light acne scarring, it’s more discolouration, not pitted areas fortunately so everything can be covered with makeup. I did use some great brightening / evening out skin tone products after my roaccutane treatment which helped even out the scarring.
My skin was clearing up after a few months, as it had when I had previously on it and nearly all clear by the time I was taken off it. It also carried on improving after I had stopped taking is as the drug is still very much active in your body. It’s also not just a ‘there you go, good luck, see you in 3 months’ treatment. You will have rigourous medical checks prior to going on Roaccutane, and it is monitored carefully during treatment. You only get one month worth of treatment at a time, so you need to go back to the hospital every month to get your next month’s load of pills. Prior to getting your next month’s prescription, you have to go to the hosptial and have a preganany test .
Roaccutane was discovered in the USA in 1979 when it was first given to patients with severe acne, most of whom reacted with dramatic and permanent clearing of their acne symptoms. I realised I wasn't going to grow out of my acne. I echo the Elizabeth Arden 8 hr love, it was by far the best for me, also false tears for my eyes and oilatum in the bath. Clove essential oil is an analgesic that has a long history of being used for cuts, wounds, and sores.

I had my reservations– I thought a lip balm this exquisite looking couldn't possibly deliver on hydration– but to my shock, this balm has joined my top five picks. It gains bonus points for not being greasy or waxy, and I love how it glides on like butter. It's my favorite when I'm looking for some color without piling on a plethora of products.
Isotretinoin has the advantage of curing acne in 75% of the patients who take it. This is a serious medication, and you can only access it via a highly trained medical specialist. 'Roaccutane or Isotretinoin can only be prescribed by a consultant dermatologist' says Dr Injibar. It's very important not to become pregnant while using isotretinoin capsules and for at least 1 month after stopping.
